End of Year News Update 2023
It's finally the end of 2023! We have lots of big adjustments in mind for 2024 and big security adjustments for this month's patch. Thank you all for your continued support and patience, we wouldn't be here without all of you!
Board & Site Changes
The help desk got a small adjustment over the past few months. If you have a ticket that was resolved, but feel you still require assistance, you now have the option to re-open the ticket!
Ticket's that have been re-opened will automatically link back to your original ticket, allowing the moderator handling it to quickly review your previous issue to better assist you. When re-opening tickets, we ask that you please include detailed information about why you've re-opened your existing ticket so that we may assist you accordingly.
New Security Logging & Information Validation
This month, we've been hard at work implementing new security features to ensure our users are as safe as possible when registering and interacting with our game. With this, we've implemented a new action logging system for specific in-game actions. Currently, these logs only affect staff related actions, such as sending a godspeak message or kicking a player. For transparency purposes, these logs will only utilize data we have already outlined in our Privacy Policy, such as your IP address and username. This is to ensure we are able to link the action to your account in the event your account is compromised or an action is taken against our CoC. The old IT source did not include any staff tool logging, meaning that staff members could kick a player or take action against them without it being logged on the server, making it the player's word against the staff member. In order to best protect our player base and ensure honesty, we have implemented logging on staff actions. In the event a moderator takes action against a player unjustly, we hope this will assist in our investigation.
Now for the part that flustered our head coder due to making the smallest error (lol), data validation. As it stands, Kiros has allowed players to register entering any value they wished for their birth date, allowing players to provide inaccurate data. This is a violation of bullet 8 of our ToS, as seen here. Upon update v1.0.0.0 launching, all accounts containing inaccurate data will be suspended and required to update their data via our support email, support@kiros-mmorpg.com. Not only is this a security risk, but it also runs the risk of users being unable to retrieve their accounts due to being unable to recall the birth date set on their account. Please note that this change was not implemented to be harmful towards our player base, and we hope that it is not seen as such. Thank you for your understanding.
Winter Update
With our newest update, we've introduced some new winter themed content! Alongside a new map, items, and a few critter additions, we've introduced a new face to our lineup of NPC's, Amaryllis! While this little kitten may seem cute, she has made strides in understanding how to survive in a cold environment, so don't underestimate her! Amaryllis offers hunting quests, collection quests, and an explore quest. Be sure to give them all a try! As a quick note, we do not intend on removing any of this content once winter is over, so it's here to stay and be built upon!
Community Poll #3
For future patches, we want to hear what's on your mind! What kinds of maps would you like for us to add? Let us know in our most recent community poll, [here]!
Side Notes
We'd like to apologize for the slow addition of content in the past few months, as all of the developers have been busy IRL. However, we hope to be pushing more regular updates now that we've been better equipped with tools for content creation. Maps, critters, and NPC's should now be regularly added, updated, and rotated next year! Our team is greatly appreciative of all of your patience and support over the past few years, and apologize that Kiros has been slow to grow. Our moderator and developer applications will be opening soon for those that are interested in dedicating their talents to adding new content!
That's all for now, thank you all so much again for sticking with us. Without all of you, we wouldn't have a community to celebrate or share content with.
Happy holidays and a safe new year!
The Kiros Modmin Team!
